Cyling Belgium & Northern France (Day 5)
Halluin to Fresnicourt
The sun greeted us for our longest ride yet. With few cafés open, it sometimes felt as if we had northern France to ourselves. Relief came in the form of a burger van, not our usual choice, but hunger dictated otherwise. We found a couple of benches in the local park and sat down to eat our lunch. Gareth’s American burger was so enormous he couldn’t finish it, and I’ll never forget the girls faces when he used the outdoor urinals!
On the road we stopped at a couple of Commonwealth War Graves, signing the remembrance books and reflecting quietly before pressing on. Our villa in Fresnicourt came with a spa area
a luxury we decided to save for the second night. Supplies came from Carrefour, pasta was cooked and demolished, and we finished with a film on TV. Simple, satisfying, and exactly what was needed.
