Cyling Belgium & Northern France (Reflection)

Looking back on our week through Belgium and northern France, it wasn’t just about the miles covered or the towns visited. It was about the contrasts we experienced: quiet canals after chaotic British roads, pastries in sunny squares after rain-drenched climbs, laughter with friends alongside moments of deep reflection at memorials and cemeteries.

Cycling gave us a unique way to connect with the landscape, to approach the Menin Gate as

soldiers once did, to climb to Vimy Ridge under our own effort, to pause at lonely headstones in villages most will never see.

Each turn of the pedals carried us through history, and each evening reminded us of the gift of friendship, good food, and shared adventure.

If there’s one lesson to carry forward, it’s this: travel slowly. Take the time to stop, to look, to

remember. For in doing so, you’ll not only discover new places but also a deeper appreciation for those who came before us.

We set out as four friends with loaded bikes and returned with stories that will last a lifetime. And though our legs may have ached, our hearts came home full.
